Nirvanashtakam : The complete understanding

Once we enter into the deep meditation we understand that we are beyond our name, body, mind, fame, degrees, accomplishments and our identity is one with the Universal Consciousness.
Ahankar or Ego primarily indicates I am the body, the mind, the intellect, the name and the fame. These identifications express with the body (sense of doership), mind (thinking, thoughts and memories), senses (enjoyership) and knowership (Intellect).
These along with the ideas of me and mine are the attachments. Dropping these attachments result in Self realisation or Atmajnana.

Once the mind fully believes in the real identity and gets established in that state of Turiya or fourth state of consciousness only Aham (real I) remains. Aham by itself is an expression of Self awareness, when the Consciousness becomes aware of itself. And then what Aham or real I says after self realisation, is beautifully narrated by Sri Shankaracharya in Nirvana Shatkam.

Nirvana Shatkam, also known as Atma shatkam, is a devotional composition consisting of 6 verses. It was written in 8th century. Its an essence of all that the Upanishad’s explain. It follows the Neti Neti approach ( I am not this or not that ). Shankaracharya explains that in reality we are pure Consciousness. The chant expresses the core doctrine of Advaita Vedanta.
Nirvana means “formless” and Shat-kam means six-verses. The Nirvana Shatakam is the description of the formless state of Nirakara ParaShiva. It was composed by Sri Adi Shankaracharya summarizing the basic teachings of Advaita Vedanta or Nondualism. Nirvana Shatkam is popular singing stotra that has six verses all ending with “Chidananda Roopah Shivoham Shivoham”.

🌷Chidananda Roopah Shivoham🌷
Chidananda means Lord Shiva or Consciousness immersed in total Bliss or Universal soul.
Shivoham means “I am Shiva. I am that pure Consciousness.” I am the Eternal knowing, Pure Consciousness and Bliss and the Auspicious (Shivam).
Nirvana Shatkam is for Self-realisation ie. to understand
true Self and to gain peace and tranquility in life. It nourishes with the power to accept and embrace pure Consciousness as it manifests itself during yoga meditation.
The benefits of chanting Shivoham: it helps to detoxify our body and mind, activate our third eye and enlighten us.
